“When we deny the story, it defines us. When we own the story, we can write a brave new ending.” -Brene Brown
Life can be challenging. Relationships are complicated. During difficult times, we may pull away from others fearing the personal connection or maybe we just need time to figure things out by ourselves. Sometimes this behavior will help, and sometimes it will not. We may reach out to family and friends thinking they know us best but continue to feel lost and confused. One thing is for certain: no one need to face these difficulties alone. As a therapist, my goal is to provide a safe, judgment-free place to explore those fears, concerns, hopes, and aspirations. I aim to provide individualized care encompassing my client's morals, values, and spriritual beliefs to help them establish their goals and write a new ending to their story.
This becomes particularly important when navigating the divorce process. Divorce is hard on everyone, especially when children are involved. When significant relationships end, those involved feel a sense of failure and vulnerability. Facing and fully embracing that vulnerability so healing can occur is a fundamental aspect of my work. In addition to my role as a psychotherapist, I provide services to couple going through a separation or divorce acting as a mediator, child specialist, and divorce coach.
During the course of my 20+ year career as a therapist with a degree in Rehabilitative Psychology from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, I have worked with a variety of patient populations spanning from young children through adulthood to geriatrics. I utilize various therapeutic techniques and evidenced-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Areas of specialty include mood disorders, depression, anxiety, emotional and behavioral disorders, and trauma. Additionally, I work with couples in conflict resolution and divorce mediation. I am a member of the Collaborative Family Law Council of Wisconsin and a board member of the Wisconsin Inter-Professional Committee on Divorce.
